Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how KeyCut ("we", "our", or "the app") handles information when you use the KeyCut iOS/iPadOS app and the KeyCut Mac Helper application (collectively, "the Services").

By using KeyCut, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Data We Collect

KeyCut is designed to operate entirely without collecting personal information. The following is the complete list of data involved:

• App preferences — Theme selection (dark/light) and any display settings are stored locally on your device using standard iOS user defaults. This data never leaves your device.
• Network discovery packets — When searching for a Mac Helper on your local network, KeyCut broadcasts a discovery signal on your local Wi-Fi. This contains only a device identifier used to pair your iPhone/iPad with your Mac. No personal information is included.
• Shortcut commands — When you tap a key, the corresponding FCP shortcut is sent over your local network to the Mac Helper. These commands are ephemeral and are never logged, stored, or transmitted beyond your local network.

What We Don't Collect

KeyCut does not collect, and has no access to, any of the following:

• Your name, email address, or any other identifying information
• Your location or GPS data
• Photos, files, or media from your device
• Contacts or calendar data
• Usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry
• Any data from Final Cut Pro, your Mac, or its files
• Payment or billing information

We do not use any third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, or tracking.

Local Network Communication

KeyCut uses your local Wi-Fi network to communicate between the iOS/iPadOS app and the Mac Helper. This communication:

• Happens entirely within your local network — no data is sent to external servers
• Is used solely to forward keyboard shortcut commands from your device to Final Cut Pro on your Mac
• Does not require an internet connection
• Does not pass through any KeyCut-owned infrastructure

On iOS/iPadOS, the system will prompt you for Local Network permission the first time KeyCut searches for a Mac Helper. This permission is required for the shortcut-input feature to function. Denying it means the app can still be used as a standalone shortcut reference, but live connection to FCP will not be available.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

KeyCut does not include any analytics, tracking, or crash reporting frameworks. We do not receive any data about how you use the app.

Apple may collect anonymised, aggregated App Store usage metrics (such as download counts and crash reports) in accordance with Apple's own Privacy Policy. This data is controlled by Apple and is not accessible to us in any personally identifiable form.

Children's Privacy

KeyCut is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Since we collect no personal data from any user, no special handling for children is required.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of KeyCut after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
